(Bild: Kovalenko Lab)

Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (LHP NCs) are the first non-epitaxial semiconductor-based quantum emitters to exhibit excitonic coherence on timescales comparable to their radiative lifetimes.

Their excitonic fine structure can be engineered through shape anisotropy to yield a nearly ideal, Fourier-transform-limited two-level system. The giant oscillator-strength effect results in fast emission down to 60 ps while maintaining single-photon emission. Superlattices of LHP NCs exhibit a collective ultrafast emission – superfluorescence – previously unseen in conventional solid-state materials.

By simple near-field coupling of highly chiral plasmonic nanostructures, LHP NCs become the first fully chiral colloidal single-photon emitters.
