Advances in high efficiency thin film solar cells are opening new opportunities for innovative manufacturing and applications.

Roll-to-roll manufacturing, which revolutionized food packaging industry, can be applied for processing of lightweight flexible solar modules on plastic foils. Such solar modules offer numerous advantages for low cost solar electricity producing systems, especially for applications on roofs and facades of buildings, transport vehicles, and portable power systems.

Research and development of single and multi-junction solar cells with novel materials and device structures have already provided excellent results in labs and they show promising potential for next genera- tion of photovoltaic systems for widespread terrestrial and space applications.
